Yu-Gi-Oh Season 1 Review & Breakdown

As an avid Duelist in the modern day and with me growing up in the 90's this show was a big influence on my current hobby. Yu-Gi-Oh was my first love, In this blog we will breakdown and review the very first season ( Aired in America). Now this Series starts kind of fast paced, We go from Yugi teaching Joey how to duel to Kaiba taking Yugi's Grandfather Blue Eyes White Dragon which lead to the Undefeated Kaiba vs The Novice Yugi Moto. Yugi Moto would use the spirit of The Puzzle he possess and he defeats Kaiba with Exodia. Now the first two episodes really set the seed for the 40 plus episode season, We met Kaiba A cocky, arrogant, but talented duelist.  But in episode 2 we meet the real villian of the season, Maximillion Pegasus The creator of Duel Monsters. He would blackmail Yugi to force him to compete in the tourney to find out who is the greatest duelist.  Now this whole tournament had great moments Like Yugi Vs Weevil, Joey Vs Rex Raptor, Joey Vs Mia, Yugi & Joey Vs The Paradox Brothers. But also in the season we see a new story arc, But this one is with Yugi Best friend Joey Wheeler, Joey is a loyal but sometimes idiot friend of Yugi Moto. Joey came into this with never having a real duel, He would pull off a shocker against Mia because of Time Wizard then beating Rex Raptor which was a very special duel as he would get his famous Black Eyes Red Dragon. Joey is also dueling for something, He is dueling for the 3 million dollars to pay for his little sister to have eye surgery so that emotion is there. Now we move on near the end of the tournament, Where Kaiba comes up to save his little brother but in order to do that he must bbeat Yugi and now the table is set to their second duel in the series. This duel was the best duel so far in the show, Kaiba brought out one of the most powerful monsters you could make at the time, The Mighty Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon which had attack points of 4500. Earlier in the duel he used a crush virus which really handicapped Yugi whole deck. But Yugi and his spirit made an insane comeback and looked like they would beat Kaiba But Kaiba threatened to risk his life which caused a rift between Yugi and the Spirit. Kaiba wins the duel and like promises he has a Duel with Pegasus, But his eye can see ever card Kaiba play and counters every move in the duel, even showed off the rare toon world which beat Kaiba and Pegasus would take his soul too. Earlier in the season Yugi promises Mokuaba he would reunite him with his brother, Now we move on to the Semi Finals where we see Yugi Beat Mia in one of the best deals of the first season. Mia dominated a conflicted Yugi but his last minute summon of Black Luster Solider got him the win. We also Saw Joey duel his best by beating a guy who trapped him in the cave earlier in the season Beating Bandit Keith, Now Keith who was cheating for most of this duel fell and quite frankly it really showed how talented Joey can become at Dueling. Now we move on to the finals putting two best friends against each other, This duel solidified Joey as a  duelist , We saw Joey use a fusion Summon making Red Eyes Black Skull Dragon that almost beat Yugi, It was  back and forth duel with each one destroy the other best card but at the end Joey predictability cost him the duel when he used time wizard but all it did was make the Dark Magician  stronger.  Now it is time for the big showdown, Yugi Vs Pegasus now this was a 4 episode duel and it was the definition of good vs evil.  Now in the beginning of the duel Pegasus used his eye and dominated Yugi just like he did earlier against Kaiba. But Yugi would use a mind shuffle with his spirit to confuse and block the power of the eye which also helped Yugi defeat Toon World,. But Pegasus had another trick up his sleeve as he made this into a shadow game. Now this duel became ever more intense, Peguas would Bring out one of the best monsters in relinquished which gave him a big advantage, Now because of Yugi weak mind he would basically :" Die " In the shadow game but not before he laid the last card down. With the power of Yugi best  The friends blocking Pegasus reading The Spirits mind he would be able to defeat him. Pegasus would get defeated, he freed the souls of Solomon Muto and the Kaiba brothers but right after Bakura would attack a weakened Pegasus and still his eye.  Now the rest of this season was basically filler, We saw Yugi duel a young Prodigy Named Rebecca who was the granddaughter of his grandfather's best friend. Then after that we got a 3-4 episode finale which was real life duel in a virtual world, nothing major here but seeing, Yugi, Joey, Kaiba, & Mia battle the Mythic Dragon is a sight to be seen.
